The biggest thing I noticed about El Nino so far this winter is the very, very widespread rain and flooding that occurred in the middle of the country in December. We know there was strong El Nino. El Nino usually keep above normal rain in TX and the Dixie states. We've noticed a pos/neg AO affects El Nino rain patterns significantly. Like the rain tropical pump rains we had in OK/AR/MO/IL/ID in latter Dec to early Jan. We had record rain which led to record floods. Cairo river gage got to it second highest level on record for January (over 56'). AO was negative. Was the AO connected in anyway with the MJO activity going on in the same time frame the rain was falling? Anybody have ideas?
